MEADOWLARK- CHARMS
COLLECTION 2
Love is in the air this season at Meadowlark, with the release of fresh pieces to sit within the sought-after Charms and Amour collections. With a focus on the traditional heart shape, a symbol synonymous with love since as far back as the 15th century, the latest range draws on some of the brand’s most beloved styles.
“Our heart-shaped rings are long-term bestsellers for us,” says Meadowlark designer Claire Hammon. “We have expanded these into necklaces and earrings as well as a micro version of each. I love the idea of layering all three earring styles along the lobe.” As well as solid and jewel-studded hearts, there are broken hearts, set to be an instant Meadowlark signature. “With the broken hearts,” explains Claire, “every piece is a pair - so you get two necklaces, two rings or a pair of earrings – to keep together or share”.
“The Broken Hearts rings are my personal favourite,” says Claire. “They have a solid, chunky band with a perfect flat heart top and fit together even if the band changes size. The intention is that they be engraved.” Pieces are finished in either luxurious 9ct gold, gold-plating or sterling silver, with some set with Thai garnets in rich red (other stones are available on request) and the mini Camille drop earrings hung with Baroque pearls.
Also building on another of Meadowlark’s most-loved recent collections, new pieces join the covetable collaboration between Claire and Charlotte Rust of vintage design store Babelogue. The long-time friends - Claire a jewellery and graphic designer and Charlotte a stylist with an eye for singular vintage pieces - share a love for exceptional design in all its forms. Their collaboration came about as a natural evolution of past shared projects and the desire to create something special that felt both enduring and of the moment.
Drawing on classical Greek sculpture including the Venus de Milo, charm pendants and earrings – which now include an elegantly shaped Grecian jug and delicately sculpted yet intricately detailed foot and hand as well as the initial Venus bust – nod to timeless design, powerful femininity and eternal elegance. Claire describes the hand as “the ultimate tool, this can mean strength and power as well as generosity, or lending a hand” while the foot, also inspired by ancient sculptural human forms, “is meaningful in many spiritual practices, symbolising freedom, respect and subservience” and the jug as “an object that has existed for centuries, a symbol of good luck and wellbeing”.
COLLECTION 2
Meadowlark’s most ‘charming’ collection to date, Charms is brand new for the brand but also references some of its earliest and still most loved and cherished pieces.
These small but intricately sculpted charms in sterling silver, gold-plated or 9ct gold are designed to surprise and delight - a tiny T-Rex, a petite strawberry, a miniature croissant and an adorable cherub are some of the stars of the range, which nods to Meadowlark’s original signature offering of charms but offers a playful take that’s perfect for 2021.
“We have been planning this update for the last few years,” says designer and co-founder Claire Hammon. “We’ve offered charms from our very first collections and they have always sold really well for us. So with Charms we’ve brought to life a selection of elevated charms to be worn your way. There is no theme, just classic and cute ideas and icons.”
The highly collectable, nostalgia-inducing edit also includes a key and gold bar both stamped with very mini Meadowlark logos, a dove, a conch shell, a gold nugget and a bee.
“The dove is a personal favourite,” says Claire. “This special piece symbolises peace and hope. It’s available in studs, signature hoops and a charm necklace, and has a second option of a red garnet heart stone set into its back.”
“Another favourite is the bumble bee,” says Claire. “We can’t live without bees so for me this is the most meaningful of the charms. Bees also symbolise so many things - work, diligence and wealth. The conch shell is known as a protective talisman for travel as well as a symbol of courage and power, while the cherub we like to think of as a symbol of love.”
“We’ve also included some pieces that are jewellery related - the tiny gold bar is a solid piece and is marked with 9ct or STG depending on the metal you choose. Then we have the gold nugget, not a raw nugget but based on the idea of pure gold nuggets in their organic form.”
“And we’ve added a whole lot of cuteness - the dinosaur in ode of our dinosaur-obsessed daughter. The classic T-Rex is her favourite and she had a hand in helping us choose which dinosaur to base this cutey on. The croissant - I have a long standing obsession with all things French - so we added in this little pastry. And the strawberries - I love these super cute solid strawberries! We also have a special ruby set option too, with the ruby embedded into the seeds.”
The Charms collection is completed with a faceted alphabet of letter charms. Slightly bigger in scale, the concept, drawing on the brand’s enduring love for art and design, was for each letter to fit inside one third of a circle, with captivating curves and sharp angles giving a nod to Art Deco.
